This Peruvian adventure begins in Cusco as you board the Belmond Andean Explorer luxury sleeper train, which is considered one of the most luxurious trains in the world and it offers the best possible way to enjoy the stunning landscapes that lie ahead. Described as a palace on wheels, the Andean explorer offers five star hotel levels of luxury including beautiful private cabins, fine cuisine prepared on board by talented chefs as well as an exquisite Lounge Car and Observation Car.
As you depart Cusco, take some time out to settle in to your luxurious surroundings. Relax in your cabin, head to the Bar Car for a drink, or perhaps even the Observation Car to take in the grogeous views. Lunch will be served in one of the dining cars, your first experience of the exceptional cuisine served on board. After a glorious lunch, it’s then time to disembark as we arrive at Raqch’i, an important control point for the Inca Empire, today a fascinating area packed with history. We head back to the train for canapés, before taking in more stunning scenery as we continue our journey. Dinner is served in the dining cars, and after your fabulous feast, retire to the Lounge Car and converse with fellow passengers.
In the morning you are greeted with stunning views of the sunrise over Lake Titicaca before breakfast is served. You will explore the diverse life of Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America. We head by boat to the Uros Islands, man-made from reeds before continuing on to Taquile Island where we enjoy a private lunch on Collata Beach with demonstrations from traditional dancers. We enjoy afternoon tea at the station before departing on to Arequipa with yet another delicious dinner in the dining cars. The adventure continues as we head off for an early-morning excursion after breakfast to Lake Lagunillas, later followed by Sumbay Caves, home to fascinating cave paintings, estimated at over 8,000 years old. Lunch is served back on the train before your journey concludes at Arequipa.
Passengers have the option to leave the train early at Canahuas to continue their tour on to Colca Canyon to take in the beauty of one of the world’s deepest canyons. An additional supplement applies.
