The Royal Scotsman is one of world's most luxurious sleeper trains and on the Clans and Castles and Isles journey, you will experience five-nights aboard the Royal Scotsman, where you'll journey the west coast of Scotland. The Clans, Castles and Isles journey will take you to visit some of Scotland's most picturesque destinations, including, the Isles of Mull, Bute and an exclusive visit to the Oban historic distillery. There are also a couple of visits to Scotland's most celebrated castles, Duart Castle and Drumlanrig Castle. As with all Royal Scotsman journeys, this is an all-inclusive experience, similar to an Orient Express Scotland journey, whereby your meals, excursions, drinks and onboard entertainment are all included.
Day 1 – Edinburgh:
Board the Royal Scotsman at Edinburgh in the afternoon and head west past Loch Lomond. With leisure time aboard the train, now is the perfect time to settle in to your luxurious cabin, explore the train or head to the bar car, all the while admiring the glorious views. Dinner is served with entertainment in the observation car.
Day 2 – Glenfinnan:
Pass Ben Nevis and disembark at Arisaig for a morning stroll along the sands of Moror. An incredible soft white beach with incredible views of the Cuillin mountain range. Rejoin the train where lunch is served as we head towards the iconic Glenfinnan Viaduct. This afternoon offers two choices; take a guided tour to explore Glenfinnan and discover the history of Bonnie Prince Charlie’s rebellion or take a hike with a mountain guide through Glen Nevis to the Steall Waterfall. The day concludes with a delicious dinner with Scottish live music in the Observation Car.
Day 3 – Oban:
After breakfast take the exclusive visit to the Oban Distillery, producer of some of the world’s finest malts. After your visit, cross to the Isle of Mull and visit the 13th century Duart Castle before returning to the Royal Scotsman for a formal dinner on board.
Day 4 – Wemyss Bay:
Take breakfast onboard, the train pulls in to Wemyss Bay where you venture to the Isle of Bute. Here you visit Mount Stuart House, an incredible gothic mansion surrounded by beautiful gardens and wild woodlands. The day concludes with an informal dinner on board the Royal Scotsman followed later by traditional entertainment.
Day 5 – Nith Valley:
Drumlanrig Castle, home of the Duchess of Buccleuch and Queensberry. Incredible views courtesy of the Nirth Valley are here to be savored before taking your choice of tours. Explore the architecture and roam the lavish gardens, or discover the Buccleuch collection of fine art. Head back to the Royal Scotsman for your final dinner on board before a musical farewell in the Observation Car.
Day 6 – Edinburgh:
Enjoy breakfast as the train returns to Edinburgh where your journey concludes.
