Explore Scotland in the ultimate way visiting historic locations all from the luxury of the Royal Scotsman sleeper train.
Departing from Edinburgh Waverley train station, the Royal Scotsman sets off for travel heading to Kyle of Lochalsh as you visit the 18th century Foulis Castle followed by Attadale on the west coast, a magnificent estate boasting a Water Garden, Japanese Garden and Sunken Garden among many other sights. The next day, you'll visit the outstanding 2,000 acre Clan Donald estate, spending time in the award-winning museum, here you can discover the history of the Highlands and Islands. The evening will have you disembark for a visit to Ballindallock Castle, one of Scotland’s most romantic castles with wonderful walled gardens.
After a day exploring the historic delights of Scotland, you'll step back aboard the Belmond Royal Scotsman luxury train to immerse yourself in the delights of traditional opulence. Enjoy an exquisite multiple course dinner made up of the finest ingredients, freshly prepared by aboard talented chefs. Relax with a glass of your favourite tipple and observe Scotland’s stunning landscape glide past. As night falls, retire to your private accommodation, perfectly suited with glorious polished woods and the finest Scottish wool fabrics. Day 1 – Edinburgh:
We depart early afternoon aboard the Royal Scotsman luxury train as we head north across the stunning Forth Railway Bridge. Our first stop is at Montrose to visit Brechin Castle Gardens, on of the finest private gardens in Scotland.
Day 2 – Kyle of Lochalsh:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as we head towards Inverness and on to Invergordon, where guests are invited to visit to the 18th century Foulis Castle. Both Mrs Monro of Foulis and her son, Hector, the Clan Chief, welcome you. Guests are then free to explore the grounds and gardens of this stunning estate. Alternatively, guests can join Hector in the drawing room for a whisky tasting. Lunch is served on board the train as we travel towards Kyle of Lochalsh, taking in the views as we travel. Disembark once more at Plockton for a visit to Attadale on the west coast, a stunning estate with Water Garden, Japanese garden and Sunken Garden among many more. Return to the train once more for an informal dinner followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
Day 3 – Kyle of Lochalsh:
After breakfast and a brief transfer, we arrive at the Isle of Skye and the 2,000 acre Clan Donald estate. Spend time in the award winning museum and discover the history of the Highlands and Islands, before returning to the train for a leisurely lunch. We retrace a part of our route back to Dingwall where we disembark in the evening for a visit to Ballindalloch Castle with it’s beautiful walled gardens. At the Boat of Garten we rejoin the train for dinner.
Day 4 – Rothiemurchus:
We head to the Rothiemurchus Estate by coach where guests have the option of a tour or to enjoy an outdoor pursuit beneath the Cairngorm Mountains. We rejoin the train at Kingussie and head south to Dunkeld for a visit to Ruthven House and Pitmuies Garden. Later that day, return to the train for dinner and your final night on board.
Day 5 – Edinburgh:
Enjoy a leisurely breakfast as we depart from Dundee and head back to Edinburgh Waverley Station.
