Scotch will be in full flow at all times as you are treated three private Scotch whiskey distillery tours plus a very exclusive visit to The Scotch Whisky Society for an exclusive whiskey tasting event. More specialist single cask whisky tasting takes place across the four days as you immerse yourself in the finest whiskey in the world.
After experiencing a day of the very finest Scotch malt whisky, retire aboard the Royal Scotsman sleeper train to experience true unrivalled levels of luxury. Unwind aboard one of the many authentic carriages, dine on numerous courses of delicious cuisine and relax with a glass of your whiskey as you watch the breath-taking Scottish landscape pass by. Day 1 – Edinburgh:
Your whiskey journey starts at Balmoral Hotel, where you'll meet your whisky ambassador for a welcome dram before departure. The Royal Scotsman luxury train departs from Edinburgh Waverley Station and heads north across the Firth of Forth over the amazing Forth Railway Bridge. Enjoy afternoon tea as the fantastic scenery glides by as we continue along the coast before arriving in Keith. Dinner this evening is informl and is followed by traditional Scottish entertainment by local musicians.
Day 2 – Kyle of Lochalsh:
Heading towards Inverness on day two, the capital of the Highlands where we visit the new Macallan Distillery in the heart of Speyside whisky region. Take a private tour, giving you insightful information into the process, production and the passion that make this Scotch so special. Rejoin the Royal Scotsman for lunch as we travel on one of the most scenic railway routes in the UK, passing Loch Luichart and the Torridon Mountains. Take in the beautiful scenery as we arrive at the fishing village of Plockton. A formal dinner is served on board followed by coffee and liqueurs in the Observation Car.
Day 3 – Carrbridge:
Take breakfast onboard as the train travels east to Carrbridge. Before arrival, join your whisky ambassador in the Observation Car for a special single cask tasting, followed by a lunch. Disembark in Aviemore to visit the historic Tomatin Distillery and learn about this magical single malt. After a guided tour, guests are treated to a tasting of three Tomatin single malts. Returning to the train at the Boat of Garten for dinner, after which you make your way to the Observation Car where local musicals play out the evening.
Day 4 – Rothiemurchus:
A brief coach transfer takes us to Rothiemurchus Estate in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park. Guests are offered the choice of pursuits including clay pigeon shooting, fishing or a tour of the estate. Return to the train in Kinguissie for a leisurely lunch as we head south before disembarking at Tullibardine Distillery in Blackford village. Your private VIP tour includes nosing straight from the cask as well as a visit to the bonded warehouse and a tasting of three Tllibardine Highland single malts. We rejoin the train in Perth and prepare for a formal dinner as we head towards Dundee. Traditional Scottish music rounds-off the finale of your Whisky journey.
Day 5 – Edinburgh:
Enjoy a breakfast and the before returning to Edinburgh Waverley Station. Guests are invited by our whisky ambassador to spend the morning at the Society’s headquarters in Edinburgh’s New Town.
