Third Day

WHALE WATCHING, LUNCH, FREE TIME AND DINNER.

  • Take part in an adventure at sea with an unforgettable trip into the world of whales and sea birds that brings you up close to whales in their natural habitat. We leave from the old harbor of Reykjavik and head out to sea, normally no further than 15 nautical miles from the harbor. During this boat tour you may see various species of whales, dolphins, seabirds and seals. The most common sightings are Minke whales, white-beaked dolphins, harbor porpoises, the popular humpback whales and killer whales (orcas). There is also a possibility that majestic fin and sei whales will also be seen on the tour. An expert guide will tell you all about your trip and describe what you can see and where to look, together with an introduction and safety guide. On board the boat are coffee facilities and restrooms as well as large windows to look out of for those who choose to stay inside. We recommend that you wear your warmest clothes, however; there are also special thermal suits onboard that you can borrow.

The duration of the cruise is from 2.5 - 3 hours. PLEASE NOTE: This tour is weather dependant and sightings are not guaranteed.

  • Followed by lunch at KOPAR RESTAURANT (right by where the whale watching boats dock). Located at the old harbour in downtown Reykjavik is Kopar Restaurant, featuring innovative ingredients and eclectic dishes. On the menu, new and old methods and recipes are met with traditional and not-sotraditional ingredients, creating a unique dining experience. Kopar’s brasserie-dishes give guests the opportunity add-on to their traditional courses, and explore the world of food in one night for a reasonable price. Influence by its surroundings, the food at Kopar is wonderful, and the service, and environment, is no exception. Kopar is influenced by its environments. The old harbour, the ships, the vibrant city centre, old and new in a surprising mix.
  • After lunch either free time for leisure.
  • Dinner: FISHCOMPANY
  • The Fish Company is an eclectic restaurant located in the city centre. They offer a trip through a world of culinary adventures, which, as most good adventures do, begins under a bridge. Not only is the menu an adventurous journey around the world, a sense of adventure is also reflected in the surroundings and essence of the venue. The Zimsen building dates back to 1884 and originally stood at Hafnarstræti 21, a few hundred meters east of its current location. It was extended in 1889, but in 2006 it was uprooted and lovingly renovated before being replanted at Grófartorg in 2008. The restaurant was designed by Leif Welding and master chef Lárus Gunnar Jónasson. Chefs are drawn to experimentation with contrasts and with Leif’s expertise they created an exciting yet functional venue. Many of the items used in the restaurant, china and kitchenware alike, are on display and for sale in the outer hall.
